The piety of the Levite is obvious and commendable in his pursuit of peace and reconciliation with his unfaithful and estranged wife who had deserted him for four months (Judges 19:2-3). There can be no genuine pursuit of peace and reconciliation without forgiveness. For sure, the Levite might have forgiven his unfaithful wife which made her to warmly receive him.
Her father’s show of uncommon reception and hospitality to his son-in-law was a testimonial of the peaceful reconciliation (Judges 19:4-9). Tensions and unresolved conflicts in our homes are like smoke that cannot be hidden. So many Christian homes today are witnessing different crises and no family is immune to some of these challenges. How we choose to respond to these challenges will determine how we enjoy peace and harmony in our home.
How would you assess the Levite’s hope for a better lodging option in Gibeah against the Canaanite city of Jerusalem/Jebus (Judges 19:11-15)?
And So
It is high time we pursued peace and reconciliation. If there are unresolved conflicts, with our spouses and other family members no matter the hurt, take steps to resolve them today.
